The German School Shenyang is the first German encounter school in China. As a BMW Brilliance reference school, it is the only international school offering preparation for Abitur. Most teachers in the German School are native German speakers, experienced in different education systems, and familiar with German pedagogic.
It has a German-speaking environment, making student integration and returning home smoother. It also has a good blend of international and Chinese families, and its “Encounter School" project helps the exchange and integration of students from different cultural backgrounds.
The first school we visited here in Shenyang was the German School Shenyang. We asked lots of questions as it is set up for the German education system. This means that students here get the same education as they would in German schools. It will be a relief for my parents, as they will see my learning progress against the German system. This will also make it much easier for me to prepare for the Abitur exams and apply for universities back in Germany and go back there in a few years. 3 of their students already took Abitur exams in German. I hope that they can share their experience.
Being sporty and a mathematics fan is not in conflict, and I am one of those people. That is why I was pleased to see its Sports Summer Festival and their awards in the Math Kangaroo, the largest youth math competition in the world. Attending the competition just in your own school is really convenient, especially with free exclusive training!
I was surprised to see that they apply learning approaches to various activities, such as documentation skills used in Adventure Summer Camp, combining both documenting the daily route and outdoor adventure preparation. Imagine using the skills and information you just learned to explore jungles and caves, camp under the stars, build a shelter, fish, and tree rappel. How fun!
We started our school tour at the German School Shenyang. Hearing the Admissions Director speaking German there just made it feel so friendly. But German is not the only language they speak. It is a trilingual school! Well, it sounds a bit challenging to me, but I am happy to learn English and Chinese.
I wanted to find out what fun activities I can expect at the school. The Admissions Director told us that the new school year starts with a "Project Week". During the week, students are assigned group project tasks. Each group has people of different ages and classes. Besides "Project Week", I also like their "Encounter School" project. I guess it means meeting someone from a different culture. Having friends who are not just German and not my age – it sounds great!
I love singing, and one of my dreams is to join a band. So I was excited when I found out the school has extra-curricular activities, including an orchestra and band. Looking at their pictures, I cannot stop imagining myself singing on a stage just like them!
